NEW DELHI: For those catching a bus from Samaspur Jageer Gaon bus stop, next to the Noida crossing, it's nothing short of an ordeal.
What stands behind them is a pile of garbage, cattle dung and filth. However, this is nothing compared to the inconveniences caused to the residents of Pandav Nagar in east Delhi, who have their houses next to the dump.
The garbage keeps flowing towards their entrances making their living miserable. The situation has worsened in the past few days due to the downpour that lashed the city.
Besides posing as health hazzard, the garbage dump is also a source of stench making it difficult for the residents to breathe fresh air.
On condition of anoyonimity, a resident told Times City that not many residents dared to complain to the concerned authorities as they were threatened by those having a stake in the illegal stacking of garbage.
Apparently, these people are supposed to have a "deal" with the authorities. Gianchand Behl, a senior citizen complained several times via the MCD helpline.
Each time he was given a complaint number, and that was the end of it. The first complaint was lodged on May 27 when the MCD commissioner office assured that action would be taken.
Two months later when he approached the authoriries on July 18, he was asked to route his complaint through Shahadra Zone where what awaited him was another complaint no.
It is September now, but inspite of the initiative taken by a suffering resident and several complaints lying with the civic body, the pile stands tall at the same place.
